More post office mayhem

Apparently the postal clerk in Scotts Mills needs to retire. She shipped all of Ken's large boxes by parcel post instead of first class. That means they came by boat instead of air. Which means they are somewhere on the ocean between Seattle and Anchorage. She had told him they would arrive in a week to 10 days by truck. Apparently she was unaware that there are no roads to Alaska that don't pass through a foreign country. The post office here estimated 3 to 4 weeks total delivery time, which is after he heads home. We're trying to see if we can rent a highbanker here, which is a shame since it cost nearly $200 to ship it. The Post Office has estimated shipping times for all classes of service. She should have read them instead of making things up. Now we punt . . .

  1. Turns out it wasn't entirely the postal clerk's fault. The Post Office website does say that it takes 8 days to ship BUT it also has a big disclaimer that locations outside the continental US (which Alaska is) are subject to the availability of transportation. She failed to mention that part or figure out exactly what it meant. Had she bothered to check, she would have found that it can take up to a month. Flargh.
